STETSON and VEAZIE Dorothy (White) Conant Rice, 90, died May 24, 2005, at a Dexter health care facility. She was born Oct. 13, 1914, at Sherman, a daughter of Miles and Ida (Landers) White. Together with her husband, Donald, she owned and operated Sweeney’s Restaurant in Veazie for many years, retiring to Stetson in 1977. She is survived by two step-sons, Edward Rice of Townsend, Mass., and Carlton Rice of Hudson, N.H.; four step-daughters, Susan Young of Westbrook, Byrl Hunter of Tyngsboro, Mass., Thurlo Dow of Pepperell, MA and Edith Tarr of Lakeland, Fla.; two brothers, Harold White of Bangor and Orie White of Cambridge; a nephew, Steven and wife, Donna White and a great- nephew, Dakota White, all of Dexter. She was predeceased by her first husband, Vernum Conant in 1959 and her second husband, Donald Rice in 1999. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 31st at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main St., Newport, with Pastor Al H. Worden officiating. Friends may call from 12 noon until the time of the service. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hermon.
