BANGOR – Dorothy G. Cush-man, daughter of William and Florence (DeGrass) Goode, died Monday, June 30, 2008, in Bangor. Dorothy was a graduate of Bangor High School, Beal Business College and Eastern Maine General Hospital School of Nursing. Dorothy was involved in community service her entire life, having served in many capacities for the Home for Aged Women, Philip Strickland House, Bangor Children’s Home, King’s Daughter’s Home, Sunshine Club for Children, and Travelers Aid. She organized the annual Shrine Clinic for Children for 35 years. Dot and her late husband, Henry, both gave generously of their time and resources to multiple charities in Bangor for more than 70 years. They both embodied community spirit. Dot was also a member of the Junior League and Athene Club. She was an avid golfer, playing at Penobscot Valley Country Club and also at a state level. She loved playing duplicate bridge, bowling and belonged to various bridge clubs and bowling teams in the local area. Dot was predeceased by her husband, Henry P. Cushman; and their son, Dr. Ronald A. Cushman. Dorothy is survived by her grandchildren, Douglas Cushman of Bangor, Ronda Cushman of Almond, N.Y., and Jill Hubbard of Atlanta; five great-grandchildren, Ivy Cushman, Jessica Cushman, Jodi Hubbard, Sophia Hubbard and Gracie Cushman; one great-great-grandchild, Willow Cushman; several nieces, nephews and friends. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, July 7, at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor, with the Rev. Randall Wilbur, pastor of Essex Street Baptist Church, officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to meet 10:45 a.m. Monday at the Superintendent’s Lodge, State Street entrance.
