BANGOR – Edna F. Jones Saindon, wife and best friend to the love of her life, Chick Saindon, passed away, June 30, 2008, at a Bangor health care facility, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born Nov. 15, 1943, in Ellsworth, Edna was the daughter of the late Effie (Havey) Jones and Alton Jones. She graduated in 1961 from Bangor High School. Edna lived most of her life in Veazie, moving to Bangor in 2004. She worked for many years at Sweeney’s restaurant with her mom, Effie. In 1976, Edna went to work for the Bangor School Department and retired in 2005. She loved working for the school system and often commented on how lucky she was to have worked with “so many wonderful people,” and how she felt “blessed to have personally known many of them.” Edna was a parishioner of St. John’s Catholic Church, Bangor. She was a eucharistic minister and served on several women’s councils. She was a member of the board at Bangor Federal Credit Union. Edna was predeceased by her parents; and sister, Aldene Netherton of Springfield, Mass.; three dear friends, Laure’anne Simoneau, Trudy Olesky and Rosemary Watson; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Connie and Leonard Smith. Edna is survived by her husband, Chick; daughter, Jennifer Ann Varney; granddaughter, Ashley Merithew and her husband, Mike, of South Portland and their daughters, Amethyst Marie and Brookly Katherine; granddaughter, Brittany Varney of Glenburn and her daughter, Eliana Saindon Diggs; granddaughter, Courtney Varney; brothers, Wilton and his wife, Mary Ellen Jones of Sullivan, Morrill and his wife, Evelyn Jones, of North Sullivan, Arthur and his wife, Janet Lee Jones, of Bethany Beach, Del., Roger and his wife, Loretta, of Feeding Hills, Mass.; and sister, Rena and her husband, Philip Anderson, of Bangor. Edna is also survived by what she called her “wonderful in-laws, who gave so much support and comfort.” They include her sisters-in-law, Rita Achille of Succasunna, N.J., Florine Rogers of Venice, Fla., and Merrimack, N.H., and Marie Saindon of Lighthouse Point, Fla.; brother-in-law, James Saindon and his wife, Ann, of Laguna Woods, Calif.; several nieces and nephews; two very special nieces, Renee Campbell-Roy of Scarborough and Kirstie Dubois of Hancock; and her very special friend and guardian angel, Bonnie McCrea. In Edna’s words, “Without Bonnie, I couldn’t have done it. She was always there for me through both good and bad.” A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday, July 3, at St. Johns Catholic Church with the Rev. Roland Nadeau, Catholic chaplain at St. Joseph Hospital, officiating. Interment will be after at Fairview Cemetery, Veazie. After the interment friends and family are invited to a reception at St. Johns Catholic Church.
