MASARDIS – Dorothy Elizabeth Junkins, 77, died Friday afternoon, March 28, 2008, with close family in attendance, at her home. She was born June 14, 1930, in Masardis, the daughter of Esther Gardiner; and granddaughter of Austen and Ethel Gardiner. Dorothy lived in Connecticut as a young girl and married her husband, Vernon, there. Together they had four children. Dorothy was known for her fabulous cooking abilities. Out of all of her many gifts, cooking and baking brought her the most joy and she loved to share this with friends and family. For those of us lucky enough to enjoy and be part of this gift, we can still taste her famous molasses cookies melting in our mouths! We are grateful she taught and passed on these signature recipes to her children and grandchildren. Dorothy was predeceased by her mother; and her daughter, Patricia Junkins Poitraw. She is survived by her three daughters, Peter and Dawn Michaud of Masardis, Jacqueline Junkins of Houlton and Debbie Helmick of North Dakota. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Presque Isle Rehab Center and Aroostook Medical Center for all the support given to the family and for blessing and touching Dorothy’s life in her last days. A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 5, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Caribou. Burial will be in the family plot this summer.
