BELFAST – Wilma (Bailey) Ellis, 90, cherished wife, mo-ther, “Nannie” and retired nurse, died Saturday, March 29, 2008, at Tall Pines Rehabilitation and Living Center, Belfast. She was born Jan. 3, 1918, in North Anson, daughter of Mabel and Fred Bailey. Wilma graduated from Anson Academy, North Anson, Class of 1935 and Eastern Maine General School of Nur-sing in 1941. On Feb. 14, 1941, she married her eighth grade sweetheart, Robert Ellis. Wil-ma’s nursing career spanned for more than 25 years and included physician’s office nurse, psychiatric nursing at Augusta Mental Health Institute and private duty nursing. She loved knitting afghans, golfing, reading, crossword puzzles, playing bridge and dancing to the music of Guy Lombardo. Prior to moving to Belfast at Penobscot Shores in 2002, Wilma and Bob wintered on Jekyll Island, Ga., and spent summers gardening and golfing by Unity Pond in Burnham. Wilma is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, Robert; her children, Roberta Martino of Plymouth, Mass., and James Ellis of Burnham and Kingfield; her grandchildren, Andrew Martino, Kathryn Martino Dawson, Joseph Martino and Megan Valente; six great-grandchildren, Jane, Alexander and Owen Dawson, Ana and Ellis Martino and Baylee Valente; and a very special friend, Donna Clark. A memorial celebration is planned for Saturday, May 10, at United Methodist Church, North Anson, with a commitment service after at Sunset Cemetery. The Ellis family is deeply grateful for the caring people at Tall Pines Center and Waldo County Hospice.
