NORTH NEWPORT – Dorothy “Gin” Stewart, 78, died May 30, 2007, at a Pittsfield health care facility, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born Aug. 7, 1928, in Pittsfield, a daughter of Norman and Elizabeth (Knowlton) Gray. Dot was a past member of the Plymouth Grange and had worked at Church Goods and General Signal, retiring from Northeast Shoe, now SAS, in 1980. She also taught Sunday school at Detroit Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Alvin; as well as two daughters, Linda and husband, John Dean, of Greenbush, and Elizabeth and husband, Bruce Patten, of St. Albans; a brother, Ralph and wife, Charlotte Gray, of Plymouth; four grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. Private family visitation will be held Wednesday, June 6, at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main St., Newport. Public graveside funeral and committal services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at Sawyer Cemetery, Plymouth, with the Rev. George Finnemore officiating. A celebration of her life will be held after the service at Barrows-Skidgel American Legion Hall, Newport.
