BANGOR – Dorothy Louise (Smith) Grover, 81, passed away peacefully Jan. 16, 2007, at a Penobscot nursing home. She was born March 19, 1925, in Portland, the daughter of Arthur and Mildred (Ireland) Smith. Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, who devoted her life to her family and making a home for them. She enjoyed spending time with her family and close friend, Mary Haynes. She was a former communicant of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception of Portland. Dorothy lived in the greater Portland area for most of her life and recently moved to the Bangor area due to her health. Dorothy is survived by her children, Virginia “Ginny” McGovern and her husband, Raymond, of Brewer, Carolyn King of Charlottesville, Va., Elizabeth “Betty” Kontio and her fiance, Michael Duffy, of Hampden and James N. Grover Jr. and his wife, Mary, of Westbrook; 10 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, James N. Grover Sr. in 1990; by her longtime companion, Donald Wheeler in 2005; two brothers, two sisters; and her close friend, Mary Haynes in 1998. A service of thanksgiving and remembrance will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, with the Rev. Robert Vaillancourt, pastor of St. Matthew Catholic Church of Hampden, presiding. Interment will be at the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta.
