GLENBURN – Richard A. Fye Sr., 53, died Jan. 16, 2007, surrounded by family members at his home, after experiencing a recurrence of melanoma. He was born Dec. 11, 1953, in Bangor, the son of Lewis A. Fye and Edna S. (Scovil) Rogerson. After attending Bangor High School, he began a career in carpentry, eventually establishing his own home building business, which he ran for more than 20 years. He was first diagnosed with melanoma in 1999. After going through a yearlong treatment, it went into remission. Around this time he closed his home building business to run a small convenience store, called Eastside Market, until August 2006. An avid racing fan, he regularly watched NASCAR races. He also attended the Indy 500 one year, a memory he cherished. He was actively involved in the community as a member of the Masonic Lodge, Kenduskeag, as well as the Anah Temple Shrine and is an honorary member of the Mini-Bikes. Besides his parents, he is survived by his son, Richard A. Fye Jr.; daughter, Kimberly J. (Fye) Ugro; brother and sister-in-law, Lewis W. and Cindy Fye; brother, Mark Fye; sisters, Linda Clarke and Judy Philbrook; sister and brother-in-law, Sandy and Clay McLaughlin; grandchildren, Kassandra and Garrett Ugro; companion, Cheryl Chapman and her two children, Adam and Ashley; granddaughter, Hailey, and many uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews. He was dearly loved by all and will be greatly missed. Friends may call 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a funeral service will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, with Major Debbie Burr, of The Salvation Army, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to a continued time of remembrance and refreshments after the service Saturday, at the Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor.
