OLD TOWN – Dorothy M. King, 87, wife of the late George L. King, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2005, at her residence in the loving care of her daughters. She was born April 1, 1917, in Burnham, the daughter of Wilbur and Alice (Stuart) Braley. The farm where she spent her younger years provided lasting memories of raising her own lamb and blueberry picking. The family moved from Burnham to Veazie where Dorothy attended Veazie and Bangor schools and where she worked as a governess. Her life was given to creating with George a loving home where they raised six children. Later they took an active role in the nurture of many of their 16 grandchildren, each one a delight over the years. In addition, each of her 31 grandchildren were received with much joy. Dorothy was an active member of the Stillwater Federated Church where she was a member of the Annie Matthews Society. Her pies and handiwork in embroidery and crocheting found their way to the yearly church fairs. Dorothy’s “green thumb” with house and garden plants continually amazed the family. She is survived and will be sadly missed by a daughter, Jacqueline Gardner of Williamston, N.C.; a son, Donald King and his wife, Nancy, of Old Town; daughter, Sharon LaFlamme and her husband, Bill, of Old Town; daughter, Penny Halberstadt and her husband, John, of Kennett Square Pa.; daughter, Denise King and her husband, George, of Bradley; 16 grandchildren: Victoria Taylor of Tarboro, N.C., Mark Gardner of Richmond, Va., Clay Gardner of Atlanta, Ga., Craig Gardner of Charleston, S.C., Kimberly McKay of Old Town, Scott King of Old Town, Jeffrey King of Old Town, Michael LaFlamme of Clyo, Ga., James LaFlamme of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Stephen LaFlamme of Old Town, Julianne Gould of Old Town, John Halbertadt Jr. of Orland, Katherine Anderson of Wheaton, Ill., Andrew Halberstadt of Framingham, Mass., Jessica Bryant of Concord, N.H. and Jason Bryant of Old Town; 31 great-grandchildren, six great-stepgrandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Margaret Higgins of Holden; and a brother, Vernon T. Braley of Bangor; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased Dec 8, 2003, by her husband of 70 years, George L. King, whom she had missed dearly this past year; a son, Douglas Ray King; son-in-law, Pete Gardner; two sisters, Barbara Prouty and Gertrude LeClair; and a brother; Wilbur T.
