BANGOR – Dorothy (Parker) Blaisdell, died Feb. 5, 2008, after a long illness. Mrs. Blaisdell was born Nov. 20, 1925, in Bangor. As a child, she experienced the trauma of the great depression. Mrs. Blaisdell attended Hampden Academy, graduating with honors in 1944. She then attended the nursing program at Eastern Maine General Hospital, now Eastern Maine Medical Center, graduating there in 1948. After graduation, she worked at Eastern Maine General Hospital, where she met and in 1952, married Dr. Carl Blaisdell. Mrs. Blaisdell was actively involved in a number of organizations that served the greater Bangor community, Bangor Children’s Home, Bangor TB and Health, Junior League of Bangor, Quipus and PEO Sisterhood. She was formerly an active member of Hammond Street Congregational Church and in later years was active with All Souls Congregational Church. In recent years, she became involved in philanthropy, contributing generously to both the Bangor Humane Society and Husson College. Her generosity was eventually rewarded; she lived to see the Red Sox win two World Series. She is survived by a sister, Charlotte Parker of Hermon; two children, Dr. John D. Blaisdell of Bangor and Jane Poisson of Virginia Beach, Va.; a son-in-law, Paul Poisson of Virginia Beach, Va.; two grandchildren, Amanda Poisson of Virginia Beach, Va., and Meredith Poisson of Jacksonville, Fla.; two stepsons, Carl Blaisdell and his wife, Marilyn, of Bangor, and Loren Blaisdell and his wife, Anita, of Millinocket. Other close relatives include the family of Julie and Ken Michaud of Hampden. The family expresses their thanks to the staff at New England Home Health Care and Westgate Manor for their outstanding care of Mrs. Blaisdell during her illness. Relatives and friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, with the Rev. Dr. James L. Haddix, pastor and teacher of All Souls Congregational Church, and the Rev. Dr. Henry Wyman officiating.
