BELFAST – Dorothy W. (Melvin) Hopkins, 83, died Jan. 12, 2006, at a Belfast nursing facility. She was born May 21, 1922, in Rockland, daughter of Ambrose and Doris (Ulmer) Melvin. She lived in Rockland and attended Rockland schools. In 1940, following her marriage to Alfred, she moved to Belfast. She worked at Truitt Bros. Shoe factory for several years and enjoyed having and going to yard sales. She loved to watch the Red Sox, have her hair done, shop for clothes and dine out. Dorothy is survived by her husband, Alfred C. Hopkins of Belfast; four children, Barry Hopkins and his wife, Beth, of Belfast, Ellen Cummings and her husband, Tom, of Quincy, Mass., Stephen Hopkins and his wife, Donna, of Belmont, Scott Hopkins and his wife, Sarah, of Searsport; two sisters, Lucille Payson and her husband, Donald, of Rockland, Faith Reed and her husband, Sullivan, of Owls Head; several grandchildren and great-grand children; many nieces and nephews including, Jane Moses and her husband, Donald, of Boscawen, N.H. and Karen Johnson of Northfield, N.H. Dorothy was predeceased by her father, Ambrose Melvin; mother, Doris (Ulmer) Sukeforth; stepfather, Edgar Sukeforth. Graveside services at Grove Cemetery, Belfast, will be announced in the spring by Young Funeral Home, 31 West Main St., Searsport.
