BANGOR – Douglas A. Thompson, 76, passed away peacefully May 23, 2008, with his loving wife, Joan and children at his side, at home. He was born Nov. 20, 1931, in Bangor, the son of Avis and Thurston Thompson. Doug graduated from Bre-wer High in 1950 and was last employed by the University of Maine. His greatest joy was watching his children and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow and play around him. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and that family was a large part of his life. He loved camping with special friends, who were like family to him. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him. He is survived by his wife, Joan; three children, Kathleen Thompson, Kim Boothby and her husband, Mike, of Brewer and Kevin Thompson and his wife, Cathy, of Bangor; grandchildren, David, Derrick, Angela, Jennie and Kristen; great-grandchildren, Brianna, Tyler, Austin, Samantha, Paige and Heather; and his sisters, Eleanor Vigue and her family, and Linda Thompson and her family. He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Cheryl; and a granddaughter, Danielle. He is in the hands of God now. In knowing this, we are at peace with his leaving. A celebration of Doug’s life will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, at First United Methodist Church, Brewer. Those who wish to remember Doug in a special way may make contributions to the Danielle Marie Thompson Scholarship, care of Pam Tweedie, 11 Fifteenth St., Bangor, ME 04401.
