EDDINGTON – Douglas “Doug” J. Castiglia, 47, died Dec. 2, 2004, at a Bangor hospital. He was born April 3, 1957, in Streator, Ill., the son of Michael and Lucille (Mobley) Castiglia. He was a part-time Penobscot County Sheriff for the Town of Hermon; retired from the Air National Guard where he worked as a crash and rescue fire fighter; member of the Eddington Fire Department for many years where he served as lieutenant and training officer. He held an Associates Degree in Fire Science. He had a life-long commitment to fire safety and prevention. He currently served as an inspector for the State Fire Marshal’s office. He was an active member of St. Mary’s Parish, Bangor; S.A.D. No. 63 School Board; and a current member of the Boy Scouts of America and served as a merit badge councilor and member of the Order of the Arrow. He loved his children and fully participated in their activity events, and volunteered many hours as a baseball and basketball coach. He is survived by his wife, Yolanda (McLean) Castiglia of Eddington; his mother and stepfather, Lucille and Larry Limberg of Odell, Ill.; his father and stepmother, Michael Castiglia and Juanita of Mendota, Ill.; one son, Anthony Castiglia, two daughters, Rachel and Elana Castiglia, all of Eddington; one brother and his wife, Timothy Castiglia and Denise of Waco, Texas; one stepsister and her husband, Stephanie and Dan TeDuits of Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Tammy (Crawford) Castiglia; infant daughter, Angela; two sisters, Amy McCormick, Debra Castiglia; one stepbrother, Eric Sondgeroth; maternal grandparents, Peter Mobley and Marjorie Fairall; paternal grandparents, Mike and Theresa Castiglia. Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bangor with the Rev. Thomas Lequin, pastor, presider. Interment will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor.
