BANGOR – Dr. Michael B. Solomon died Feb. 4, 2005, of natural causes while skiing at Sugarloaf. He was born Feb. 24, 1942, in Brooklyn, N.Y. the son of William and Myra Solomon. Dr. Solomon received his undergraduate training at Amherst College, and then went on to medical school at the prestigious University of Bologna, graduating in 1968. It was there he met Ingrid, his wife of 40 years. In 1973, after completing his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Long Island College Hospital in New York, he practiced medicine for two years at Loring Air Force Base. While at first a reluctant Mainer, he grew to love the state and all that it offered. In 1975, he began practicing obstetrics and gynecology in Bangor and later opened Acadia OB/GYN Associates. While maintaining private practice, Dr. Solomon went on to become Chief of Gynecology at St. Joseph Hospital (1992-1994) and then Acting Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Eastern Maine Medical Center (1994-1997). He loved the practice of medicine, and the ability it gave him to meet and help others. Dr. Solomon was a loving family man. For him, there could never be enough family, and he was anxiously awaiting the March arrival of his fourth grandchild through daughter Martina. He is survived by his wife, Ingrid; three daughters, Martina Thimot and her husband, Tom, of Los Gatos, Calif., Marisa Solomon and her husband, Jack Burt, of Bangor, Ula Polsky and her husband, Phil, of Houston, Texas; three grandchildren, Benjamin, Lucas and Maxwell; a brother, Andy and his wife, Carol, of Rochester, N.Y.; a niece, Pamela of Boston, Mass.; a cousin, Steve, and his wife, Kathleen and their children, of New York City; an aunt, Doris Zeitman of Lake Worth, Fla.; and his father, William, also of Lake Worth, Fla. Mike has a passion for the outdoors. Whether a morning hike with is wife in Acadia, paddling a canoe on Lake Lucerne with one of his grandchildren, or coaxing one last run out of his daughters at Sugarloaf, he made the most of everyday. His zest for life will be missed by all. Funeral services will be held 12 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, at the Beth El Synagogue, 183 French St., Bangor. Please note that parking is limited. Internment will follow shortly thereafter at the Beth El Cemetery on Mount Hope Avenue.
