PRESQUE ISLE – Dr. Thomas Summerson Jr., 75, died Dec. 20, 2006, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Jan. 28, 1931, in Fort Fairfield, the son of Thomas and Nettie (Belmain) Summerson. Tom graduated from Arcadia University, Wolfville, Nova Scotia, in 1953 and Tufts University, with a DMD degree in 1957; married his wife, Sarah Buckley Summerson; entered the U.S. Army and served in Germany until 1959. They then moved to Presque Isle, where he began his dentistry practice on Main Street. He eventually moved his office to Academy Street, where he practiced until his retirement in 1998. He was a member of St John’s Episcopal Church, Presque Isle; Trinity Lodge No. 130 AF & AM; and the Presque Isle Country Club. His dental associations included The American Dental Association, The Maine Dental Association, The Aroostook Dental Society, Academy of General Dentistry and The Pierre Fouchard Academy. Surviving him are his wife, Sarah of Presque Isle; two sons, David M. Summerson and his wife, Sandi and their children, Meghan and Mitchel, of Scarborough and John T. Summerson and his wife, XiaoXiang and their son, Miles, of Reading, Mass.; a daughter, Susan R. Summerson and her children, Jeremy and Sarah Fitzpatrick, of Guilford; sisters, Alice McFee of Florida, Irene Spiess of Connecticut, Barbara Wray of Florida and Betty McKenney of Fort Fairfield. He was predeceased by a sister, Verna Whitney-Smith. Relatives and friends may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 52 Second St., Presque Isle, with the Rev. Robert Smith officiating.
