KNOX – Dwayne A. Drew Sr., 61, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, July 30, 2008, while at home, with his wife, JoAnne. He was born June 23, 1947, in Montville, the son of late Roger E. Drew Sr. and Evelyn (Stewart) Drew. Dwayne was one of five children. Dwayne graduated from Mount View in 1966. He held several jobs throughout his short life, but his passion was as owner and operator of his own truck. As long as he was tinkering on something he was happy. He loved to race his snowmobile, Old Smokey, hunt with his coon dogs, hunt with his family and friends, and take his grandkids fishing. When Dwayne wasn’t on the road trucking, you would likely find him in his boat fishing, out hunting, or just spending time with his family. No matter where he was you can bet there was a story being told. Those of us who were fortunate enough to have had him in our lives knew that under that tough exterior was a great big “softie” with a heart of gold. You could always count on him to be there when you needed him. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, son and friend. His smile will be missed but never forgotten. He will live in our hearts forever. He was predeceased by his father, Roger E. Drew Sr.; and his infant daughter, Pamela Jean. He is survived by his mother, Evelyn Drew of Knox; his beloved wife of 17 years, JoAnne; his children, Tammy McCue and husband, Christopher, of Knox, Lori Davidson and husband, Gerald, of Montville, Ronnie St. Laurent and companion, Brittany Richard, of Troy, Dwayne A. Drew Jr. “Dino” of California, and Tanya Braley and husband, Michael, of Swanville. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, whom he referred to as his “little fishing buddies,” Ray, Jonny, Kenny, Miranda, Kevin, Brandon, as well as Eric and Stephen. He is also survived by his brother, Roger E. Drew Jr. “Gene” and wife, Brenda, of Unity; sisters, Rita Doughty of Knox, Marilyn McKenney and husband, Clarence, of Knox, and Dawna Routhier and husband, Ray, of Oakland; sisters-in-law, June DeMonte and Dot Butkus; brother-in-law, David Butkus and his wife, Marietta, of Connecticut; one great-grandchild, Gabriel; several nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members. He also leaves behind two very special friends, Dana Andrews of Knox and Bruce Rice of Augusta; and one special buddy, Kilo. A celebration of his life will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, at The Unity Centre for the Performing Arts, School Street, Unity. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Freedom. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to his wife, JoAnne Drew, 200 Morse Road, Knox, ME 04986 or The American Lung Association, 122 State St., Augusta, ME 04330-5615. Arrangements are with Lawry Brothers Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 107 Main St., Fairfield. Condolences may be expressed at www.lawrybrothers.com.
