EAST MACHIAS – Dwight “Bud” R. Guptill passed away peacefully Nov. 23, 2006, with family by his side at the Oceanview Nursing Home. He was born Jan. 11, 1925, in Whitneyville, the son of the late William and Olive (Cook) Guptill. Bud was a World War II veteran of the Army, 11th Airborne Engineers, and served in the Pacific as a paratrooper having made seven combat jumps. He enjoyed hunting and was a registered Maine guide. Bud passed time in his gardens with his wife, Faye, in the summers and dedicated his spare time to being an active part of his grandchildren’s lives. He is survived by four children, three sons, William R. and his wife, Donna, Robert J. and his wife, Carol, all of Hermon and Lyle C. and his wife, Debbie, of East Machias, and a daughter, Laurel Tarbell and her husband, Brian, of East Machias; 13 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Leander E. of Spruce Head; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Faye (Pettegrew); two brothers, Burton of Camden and Dean of Wesley; and three sisters, Evelyn of Warren, Marion of Wesley and Flora “Connie” of Thomaston. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 26, at Wildwood Cemetery, Guptill Road, Wesley, with Pastor Bill Holmes officiating.
