WINTERPORT – Earl Allen 63, husband of Phylis (Robichaud) Allen, died unexpectedly Dec. 16, 2007, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Oct. 7, 1944, in Bangor, the son of Arthur and Ruby (Miller) Allen. He worked for more than 40 years behind the scenes of local television channels of which 37 years were at MPBN; earning in the process, two Emmy nominations and a National Association of Education Broadcasters Award, for set design. He shared his skills with many young students of broadcasting during his career. He was a very talented finish carpenter, making beautiful furniture for his entire family as well as sets for MPBN. He enjoyed many summers at the family camp in Franklin, playing on the tractor and boating around the bay. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Phylis Allen; three children, Heather and her husband, Daniel Deane, of Stetson, Scott of Winterport, and Christopher and his wife, Anna, of Albany, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Joshua, Jared and Jenna of Stetson, and Valentina and Victoria of Albany, N.Y.; one sister, Doris Ramsdell of Arizona; many nieces and nephews. He will be missed by all including his special dog, Babe. He was predeceased by four brothers, Eugene, Donald, Wilbur Allen and Darrell Ramsdell. Friends and family are invited to a memorial and celebration of Earl’s life 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21, at MPBN studio, 75 Texas Ave., Bangor, with a close friend of the family leading the service.
