HAMPDEN – Earl E. Soper, 80, husband of the late Geraldine (Cargill) Soper, died unexpectedly Nov. 1, 2005, at his home. He was born Dec. 15, 1924, in Dover-Foxcroft, the son of Cedric and Berniece (Donald) Soper. Earl was a graduate of Newport High School, Class of 1942. He served in World War II in the 9th Air Force in the European Theater. He enjoyed the outdoors, nature, hunting and fishing. Earl worked in the electronics field for Pratt and Whitney, Maine Research, Sanders Company and Raytheon. He helped to develop parts for moon landing missions, developing the bar code system and had C.I.A. secret clearance. He was a past union president of R.C.A. and was a member of Webster Masonic Lodge 164 AF & AM of Sebattus before moving to Hampden and transferring his membership to Mystic Lodge No. 65 AF & AM of Hampden. He is survived by his daughter, Priscilla McCarthy and her husband, Jack; his son, Scott Soper and his wife, Angie; granddaughters, Dawn Sylvain and her husband, Guy, Angela Stout and her husband, Tim, and Amy Soper; grandsons, Joel Marek and Frank Marek Jr.; great-grandchildren, April Murallo, Shawn Sylvain, Timothy Stout and his companion, Kay McCafferty; many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, with the Rev. Dr. Deborah M. Jenks, pastor of the Hampden Congregational Church, officiating. A memorial conducted by the officers and members of Mystic Lodge No. 65 AF & AM of Hampden will be part of the memorial service honoring Earl’s life.
