ISLESBORO – Earland W. Grindle Sr., 67, died unexpectedly Jan. 5, 2007, at his residence. He was born June 5, 1939, in Islesboro, son of Howard Eaton and Faylene Grindle. He graduated in 1958 as salutatorian of his class and was a big basketball star in his day. He was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran, who worked as a painter and owned his own business for many years. Earland was an avid hunter, who enjoyed going up north to hunt moose. He also enjoyed deer hunting and nature. He was a fan of Unity Raceway and NASCAR for many years. He is predeceased by his mother, Faylene Grindle; his grandmother who raised him, Alzada Pendleton; and step-daughter, Elaine. Earland is survived by his wife of 24 years, Betty A. Grindle of Isles-boro; children, Allison, Apryl, Earl Jr. and Scott; stepchildren Michael, Kenneth, Sheila, Rusty, Peter, Jennifer and Andrew; half-sisters, Arlene and Fern; and half-brother, Rayford; as well as his lifelong friend, who he thought of as a brother, Billy Pettengill of Sedgwick; 16 grandchildren; 6 great-grand-children; several nieces, nephews and many cousins.
