CARIBOU – Earle F. Clowes, 83, husband of the late Dora (Thomas) Clowes, died Jan. 10, 2007, in Bangor. He was born Jan. 16, 1923, at Perth Andover, New Brunswick, the son of Fred and Marie (St. Peter) Clowes. He was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1940. Earle served with the U.S. Army during World War II as a cryptographic technician and was stationed in Germany, France and England. Earle was employed in the potato industry as a fertilizer salesman and potato broker for many years, until his retirement. He was a member of the Gray Memorial United Methodist Church. Earle was also a member of the Caribou County Club and was an avid golfer, a member of the Caribou Curling Club, the Caribou Rotary Club, the Toastmasters Club and was president of the Caribou PTA for a number of years. He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Craig Clowes and his wife, Pam, of Caribou, Thomas Clowes and his wife, Jeanne, of Stockholm and Peter Clowes and his wife, Jennifer, of Gorham; one daughter, Suzanne Clowes of Waltham, Mass.; two grandsons, Kaleb and Jacob Clowes; three granddaughters, Carrie Foster, Chelsea and Kaitlyn Clowes; one great-grandson, Logan Faulkner; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Avis Armstrong of Caribou. Earle will be missed by his cat, Jack. Friends may call 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, until time of services at the Gray Memorial United Methodist Church, Caribou. A celebration of Earle’s life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the Gray Memorial United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Anna Beach, pastor, officiating. Spring interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. Arrangements are by Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou.
