HAMPDEN and BANGOR – Emerson “Tim” M. Clendenning, husband of Rowena (Littlefield) Clendenning, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jan. 9, 2007, at a Bangor health care facility. Tim was born Dec. 30, 1911, in Vanceboro, the son of Matthews and Theresa (Sucee) Clendenning. Tim had just celebrated his 95th birthday. Tim was the owner and operator of Clendenning Oil, Hampden, for more than 40 years. He was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed hunting and trapping as a young man. He especially loved fishing and spending time with his family at his camp on Moosehead Lake. He was a member of Grace Methodist Church, Bangor, where he attended with his wife, Rowena. He was a past member of the Bangor/Brewer bowling league and also enjoyed the horse races and raised several trotters of his own. Tim was a great lover of nature and especially loved his dogs, Pepper and Dee Dee. Tim was an avid gardener and enjoyed putting in and tending his flower and vegetable gardens every year. His green thumb allowed many friends and family to enjoy fresh vegetables throughout the summer and fall, and Rowena enjoyed putting up vegetables for the winter. In his later years, he enjoyed feeding and watching the birds and wild turkeys that roamed freely in his yard. Tim was very generous with his family and friends and enjoyed spending time with them. He will be fondly remembered for his wit and great sense of humor. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Rowena (Littlefield) Clendenning of Hampden; three children, E. Gale Clendenning of Veazie, Brenda Smith and her husband, Paul, of Lincoln and Colby Clendenning and his wife, Donna, of Hampden; a brother, Douglas Clendenning and his wife, Fern, of Bangor. He was blessed with 10 grandchildren, Timothy Jameson, Eric Jameson, Michael Clendenning, Kevin Clendenning, Karen Nash, Rebecca Smith, Angela Carter, Pamela Carter and Tiffany Voyou. He was further blessed with nine great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Tim was predeceased by two sisters, Shirley Wheeler and Thelma Clendenning; and three brothers, Donald, Colby and Merrril Clendenning.
