BLUE HILL – Earline M. Ferden, 87, died March 3, 2005. She was born Dec. 28, 1917, in Walpole, Mass., the daughter of Winsor F. and Idella M. (Snow) Bowden. She graduated from Walpole High School and attended a finishing course at Burdett College in Boston, Mass. She then worked for Bird & Son in East Walpole, Mass., as an edifphone operator until her marriage in 1939 to Ellsworth R. Ferden. They moved to Maine in 1952. Earline was a 70-year member of the Grange. She was past master of Rainbow Grange and a member of the Rosier-Rainbow Grange at time of death. She was a member of the Rebekahs for more than 60 years and belonging to Mt. Rebekah Lodge of Blue Hill at time of death. She was a member of Penobscot Chapter No. 107, O.E.S. Earline was a member of the Penobscot Methodist Church where she served as organist for more than 20 years. She was also active in the Ladies Aid Club for the church. She served as chairman of the wreath committee of the Penobscot Bay Branch of Women’s National Farm and Garden Association for many years. Earline was very proud to return to work at the age of 65 at her son Charles’ business, Downeast Graphics & Printing Company. She was a great cook, greatly enjoyed doing all kinds of handcrafts and was a great lover of flowers and birds. Earline is survived by her son, Charles and wife, Carley Ferden; a daughter, Priscilla Perkins; all of Penobscot; grandchildren, Scott Ferden, Donna Dailgle-Ferden and her son, Joseph Flannery, Barbara Hemond, Peter Ferden, Leigh-Ann Whitten and husband, Mark, Sharon Dodd and husband, Al; great-grandchildren, Daniel Ferden, Jeffrey, Amanda and Melanie Whitten, Erin, Meghan and Jordan Dodd; three sisters-in-law; and also many nieces, nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ellsworth and daughter Nancy. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 12, 2005, at the Penobscot United Methodist Church, Penobscot, with the Rev. Dr. Tracy Reeves officiating.
