BATH – Eda “Louise” (Hackett) Perkins, 86, dear wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully the morning of Monday, Sept. 10, 2007, after a brave battle with illness. Her spirit and tenacity kept her going until the end. She was born June 20, 1921, in Houlton, to Eda Agnes (Trueworthy) Hackett and Arthur James Hackett. Louise graduated from Skowhegan High School in 1939. She graduated from the School of Nursing at Eastern Maine General Hospital, Bangor, where she worked before joining the Army as a nurse. She worked in nursing at the Bath Memorial Hospital for more than 30 years, where she was known as “Perky” to her fellow staff members. She retired in 1985, but the nurse and caretaker in her didn’t stop there. She was always on duty. She will forever be remembered for her laugh, her sense of humor and her style. She was the life of the party and loved to make other people laugh. She loved to celebrate and be with family and friends. She had a wonderfully voracious appetite, both for life and for mashed potatoes. Louise is survived by her husband, Everett Bruce Perkins of Bath; son, Everett A. Perkins of Phippsburg; and daughter, Eda “Edie” A. Leach of Bangor, and their families; daughter-in-law, Estella Perkins; granddaughter, Sasha Perkins, both of Phippsburg; son-in-law, Roger Leach; and granddaughters, Abby Leach and Elizabeth “Libby” Leach, all of Bangor; and son-in-law, Eddie Mandracia of California. She is also survived by her last remaining sibling, Lucille Burke of Bath; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her youngest daughter, Judith Louise Mandracia; three sisters and two brothers. Visiting hours will be held 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, at David E. Desmond Funeral Home, 638 High St., Bath. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 14, at United Church of Christ, Congregational, 150 Congress Ave., Bath. A private burial will be held after at Maine Veterans’ Cemetery, Augusta.
