HARTLAND – Edgar R. Woodman, 97, died peacefully Monday, July 28, 2008, at Seal Rock Healthcare Facility, Saco. He was born Oct. 17, 1910, in St. Albans, the son of George and Mary Tarr Woodman. He moved to Hartland at age of 10 and finished his education in Hartland schools, graduating from Hartland Academy, Class of 1928. For many years he was employed by H.C. Baxter & Bros., and later was promoted to plant engineer at their freezing plant in Corinna, known as Snowflake Canning Co., until it burned in 1968. The next year he was appointed town manager for Hartland and served in that position for seven and a half years, retiring on his 65th birthday. He continued to be active in the town affairs, serving as building inspector during the completion of three community block grants. He was a past member of North Kennebec Regional Planning Commission and Hartland Planning Board. He also served as plumbing inspector for the town of Hartland. Edgar was a past member of the board of trustees for Hartland Library and served on the board of directors of Scott-Webb Memorial Medical Center for 18 years. He was a past district deputy grand master of Hartland Lodge of Odd Fellows, I.O.O.F. No. 101 and belonged to Hartland and St. Albans Lions Club and Triple C. Couples Club. His hobbies included gardening, woodworking, hunting and fishing. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and served as secretary-treasurer of Great Moose Lake Fish and Game Association for 26 years. He attended Grace Linn Memorial United Methodist Church, Hartland. He is survived by his daughter, Jean Plourde of Biddeford; his nephews, Royce Woodman of Newport, Gordon Woodman of St. Albans, Clifton Woodman of Detroit and Reginald Woodman of Skowhegan; and his nieces, Florence Grignon of St. Albans, Alpine Taylor of Veazie, Eva Lindsey of Farmington and Verda Wilson of St. Albans. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Grace; his brothers, Fred Woodman and Clair Woodman; his sisters, Florence Weymouth and Etta Avery; his half brother, Oscar Merchant; and his half sister, Dora Merchant. A committal service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, at Pine Grove Cemetery, Route 152, Hartland, with the Rev. Ellen Bridge officiating.
