MACHIAS – Edith M. Pettegrow, 98, passed away Jan. 12, 2006, at Marshall Health Care Facility in Machias. She was born March 18, 1907, in Larrabee, the daughter of the late George and Marietta (Ramsdell) Pettegrow. Edith grew up in the Machiasport area. For many years she lived in Brookline, Mass. where she worked for the Beaver Country Day School. She retired to the Machias area. Edith was an excellent cook. She also had a great love for animals. Edith was predeceased by three brothers, Victor, Orland, and Leavitt; and one sister, Abbie Carroll. Edith is survived by one nephew, Stuart Carroll, and wife, Pencie, of Jefferson; several nieces in the Machias area; and special friends, Betsey Telford of York and Inez Ackley, formerly of Machias. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, at the Larrabee Bayview Cemetery, officiated by Pastor Paul Dodge. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Edith’s memory to the Ark Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 276, Cherryfield, ME 04622. Arrangements are under the care of Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, Machias.
