LUBEC – Edith Wright Dinsmore Scott, wife of the late Ralph Scott, passed away June 3, 2006, at a Bangor hospital, after a long illness. She was born Dec. 17, 1915, in Lubec, the youngest daughter of George and Gertrude (Passmore) Wright. She was educated in the Lubec schools and received nurse’s training in Lynn, Mass. While living in Massachusetts with her sister, Vinnie, she was affiliated with the O.E.S. Rebekah Lodges and was a life member of the Princess of Orange Lodge of Somerville, Mass. She was a past district deputy of the Rebekah Assembly of Maine and Massachusetts, a past matron of Quote Light O.E.S. No. 94, Lubec, a past master of Lubec Grange No. 434, a member of the Washington Pomona Grange No. 8, past grand representative to Sassachawgan, Canada, life member of Machias Chapter No. 83, member of Maine State Grange, member of Enterprise Grange, Orrington and a member of the West Lubec Methodist Church. Edith had celebrated her 90th birthday in December, while residing at the Stillwater Health Care Center in Bangor. This accomplishment meant a great deal to her and to her family. After many years of ill health, she was proud to have reached this milestone in her life. Edith’s favorite hobbies were knitting and making gifts with plastic canvas and beads. She loved to make items for others and was always knitting patterns from memory. She enjoyed playing Bingo and Skip-Bo with her friends, especially Gladys Goodwin and Marjorie, while living at the Phillips Strickland House in Bangor. She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph Scott; son, George R. Dinsmore; daughter-in-law, Gerry; as well as her parents; three sisters, Vinnie, Blanche and Salome; two brothers, Roy and George; nephew, Robert M. Gardner; and great-niece, Gayle Gardner. She is survived by nieces, Maxine Jones Nugent of Bangor, Dorothy Jones Olson of Lubec; special great-niece, Glenys Gardner Gray and her family of Orrington; two nephews, Dennis Erikson of Lubec and Kenneth Gardner of South Turner; granddaughter, Georgeann “Gina” (Dinsmore) Brown of Woodland; and great-grandson, Devin W. Brown of Bangor; several great-nieces and great-nephews in the Lubec, Machias and Kittery areas as well as in Canada. Honoring her request, there will be no funeral service. There will be prayers said at the time of her burial 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 7, at the Split Hill Cemetery, West Lubec, by the Rev. Dale Hupp, of the West Lubec Methodist Church.
