CARMEL – Edward Allen Crowley, 71, passed away Nov. 9, 2007, surrounded by family and friends at his home, after a long struggle with emphysema. He was born May 13, 1936, in Brewer, the son of the late Thomas and Helen (Feeney) Crowley. Throughout his life, Ed worked initially at Eastern Fine Paper, then nearly 30 years for Pepsi-Cola, nearly 10 years at Affiliated Material Services and finally at Republic Parking at the airport. His dedication to his work and his family is peerless. He will be missed. He was a member and former master of Benevolent Lodge No. 187 AF & AM, Carmel. He was also a member of Golden Harvest Grange No. 33 and Carmel Senior Citizens. Ed was chief of Carmel Volunteer Fire Department for many years, which began a family tradition of service in the fire department, which has been followed by sons, daughters and grandsons, including Allen, William, Evelyn, Thomas, Michael, Cathy, Matthew and Adam. He served the town of Carmel for many years and his family is following in his footsteps. Ed is survived by his best friend and bride of 53 years, Anne (McLaughlin) Crowley; children, William Crowley and his wife, Rhonda, of Carmel, Evelyn and her husband, Ed Smith, of Carmel, Thomas Crowley of Carmel and Catherine Partridge of Corinth, Michael Crowley and his wife, Kim, of Kingsley, Penn., and Barbara and her husband, Howard, of Greenville; 14 grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren. He is also survived by in-laws, including Frances Crossman McLaughlin, Rose and Richard Stocker, Sally and Bob Campbell; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Allen Edward Crowley in 1988; two sisters, Anna Bowley and Mary Crowley; brother, John Crowley; mother and father-in-law, Frisby and Gertrude McLaughlin; brother-in-law, Robert McLaughlin; and two sons-in-law, George Witherly and David Partridge. A service of remembrance will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with Pastor Judy Ahles of Carmel Union Congregational Church, officiating. Friends may call noon until time of the service. Interment will be after at Highland Cemetery, Carmel. Relatives and friends are invited to share conversation and refreshments at 80 Mountain Lane, Carmel, immediately after the interment.
