BANGOR – Francis “Frank” Alexander Gallant, 75, passed away Nov. 9, 2007, at the Maine Veterans’ Home, Bangor. He was born Aug. 10, 1932, in Mexico, the son of Peter Thomas and Doritha (DesRoches) Gallant. Francis served more than 13 years in the U.S. Army in many capacities and most notably for his service as a drill instructor responsible for training countless soldiers sent to defend our freedom during the Korean War. Francis was a well-known chef in various Bangor and Bar Harbor establishments, including Eastern Maine Medical Center, Bangor House, Chuck Wagon, Black Knight Restaurant, Bar Harbor Grill and Bar Harbor Motor Inn. He was also active in the local Alcoholics Anonymous and served as a sponsor to many individuals struggling to maintain their sobriety. Francis is survived by his wife of 52 years, the former Eileen Jane (Brown) Gallant of Dixfield; six children, Michael and his wife, Diane, of Levant, Steven and his wife, Patty, of Old Town, David and his wife, Kelley, of Converse, Texas, Joseph of Parkman, Gregory and his wife, Dawn, of Corinna, and Michele and her husband, John Raymond, of Auburn; eight grandchildren, Jeremy, Monica, Tabitha, Monique, Stephanie, Brooke, Cameron and Joshua; one great-grandchild, Gabriella; eight stepgrandchildren, Tina, Trisha, Ryan, Derrick, Shawn, Christine, Craig and Denny; six great-stepgrandchildren, several nieces and nephews; and one brother, Eugene Gallant of Mexico. He was predeceased by his parents; three brothers, Gerard “Sonny” Gallant, Roger P. “Slugger” Gallant and Everett J. Gallant; his sister, Geraldine Bither; and his son, James Patrick Gallant. Friends may call 4-6 p.m. Monday at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 300 State St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Roland Nadeau officiating. Interment will be after in the family lot at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor.
