BEDDINGTON – Edward D. “Ned” Hodgkins, 67, died Friday, Oct. 22, 2004, at Bangor a hospital as a result of cardiac arrest. He was born Aug. 24, 1937, in Lamoine, the son of Sydney D. and Ida M. (Carter) Hodgkins. Ned was a graduate of Stonington High School, Class of 1955. He served for four years in the U.S. Air Force, where he was stationed in Alaska, Nevada, and Mississippi. Ned had a lifelong love of the ocean, his family, and his friends. Ned is survived by his wife, Linda S. (Grindle) Hodgkins of Beddington; four children, Steve Leighton and his wife, Dawn, of New Hampshire, Debra Dorsey of Florida, Tina Cartier and her husband, John, of Iowa, and Mark Hodgkins of New Hampshire; three step-children, Shawn Stevens and his wife, Melanie of York, Kara Stevens of Bucksport, and Teresa Stevens of Brunswick; 15 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, two brothers, John Hodgkins of Stonington, and Philip Hodgkins of New Hampshire; a sister, Inez Hayes of Oklahoma; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three sisters, Sandra, Joan, and Marjorie. Memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, at the Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, Main St., Stonington. Following the memorial service, there will be a memorial reception held at the home of John Hodgkins in Stonington.
