ELLSWORTH – Edward “Ed” L. Brown, 86, passed away May 17, 2008, at an Ellsworth hospital. He was born Sept. 16, 1921, in Ells-worth, son of the late Everett and Bernice (Dunham) Brown. Ed graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1939. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a mechanic. During this time he served 19 months in the European Theater. Ed served with the Volunteer Ellsworth Fire Department for 31 years, having served 18 years as assistant chief. He owned and operated a gas station, Brown’s Esso, with his brother, Charles, for many years. He also worked at various auto dealers in the area as a mechanic. He was a member of United Baptist Church, where he worked as Sunday school teacher. He is survived by his children, Beverly Camire and husband, Louie, of Florida, David Brown and wife, Kim, of Virginia and Debbie Maddocks and husband, Hollis, of Ellsworth; grandchildren, Holly Lounder and husband, Scott, of Ellsworth, Timothy Maddocks and companion, Jacqueline Kassebaum, of Austin, Texas, Mandy Brown of New York, Joshua Brown of Virginia and Tucker Camire of Washington; his great-grandchildren, Taylor Lounder, Jenna Bell and Chelsea Lounder, whom he adored and loved the time he spent fishing and hiking with; and a nephew, Richard Brown and wife, Rosalie, of Gardner. He was predeceased by his wife, Marlene (Kidder) Brown in 2002; brother, Charles; and a great-nephew, Richard. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Ellsworth, where a funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, officiated by Pastor Scott Conners and the Rev.
