ORRINGTON – Edward Herbert Moore, 92, died Oct. 5, 2005, at Ross Manor. He was a resident of Orrington for 68 years. He was born Dec. 25, 1912, in Hartland, the son of George E. and Olive M. (Tourtillotte) Moore. Mr. Moore attended Brewer schools. He began in the printing business in Fort Fairfield, then went on to work in Bar Harbor and Bangor. In 1940, Mr. Moore began working with L.H. Thompson Printing Co., of Brewer, and in 1962, went to work with Bacon Printing, until his retirement in May 2004. He had been a member of the East Orrington Congregational Church since 1940 and was a deacon for life. Mr. Moore was an active member of the former Homemakers Club of the church, and he had built many special pieces of furniture for the church, such as the communion table, in memory of his first wife, Jean; the kneeling bench; the lectern, which holds the guest book as you enter the church; and the wood case that holds the “In Memoriam” book in the vestibule of the church. Mr. Moore was a charter member, life member, and treasurer for 35 years of the Ralph J. Pollard Lodge No. 217 of Orrington. He built the first “pop-up camper,” called S & M Trailers, in 1950 with his neighbor and friend, Oscar Salisbury. Surviving are a daughter, Priscilla, and her husband, Richard B. Gray, of Brewer; a son-in-law, James Grindal, of Orrington; four grandchildren, Jennifer Mott and her husband, David, of Brewer, Cynthia Footman and her husband, Scott, of Greenville, Mark Gray and his wife, Kim, of Hampden, Julie Edgecomb and her husband, Steven Jr., of Brewer; four great-grandchildren, Delaney Mott, Owen and Seth Gray, and Mya Edgecomb; one brother, John E. Moore of Utah; sister-in-law, Lorraine Moore; four stepchildren, James Rawcliffe and his wife, Betty, of Trenton, Judy Hawkins and her husband, Bill, of Eddington, John Rawcliffe and his wife, Sally, of Hampden, Jeffrey Rawcliffe and his wife, Rachel, of Hampden; step-grandchildren, great-stepgrandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends. He was predeceased by his first wife, Jean (Burrill) Moore on Aug. 9, 1985; a daughter, Carolyn Grindal, on May 21, 2002; his second wife, Bessie Rawcliffe Moore, on Sept. 20, 2003; two sisters; and two brothers. Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, 2005, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer, where a Masonic Service will be conducted by the Ralph J. Pollard Lodge No. 217. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, 2005, at the East Orrington Congregational Church with the Reverends Adam Soderberg, and Patricia Moore officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to share conversation and refreshments at Carlson Hall at the East Orrington Congregational Church following the service. Interment will be at Marston Cemetery, Snows Corner Road, Orrington, following the reception.
