LEVANT – Edward Harold Rankin Jr., 62, died Aug. 11, 2005, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Nov. 24, 1942, in Bangor, the son of Edward Harold and Kathleen Anne (McCarron) Rankin. Ed graduated from John Baptist in 1961 and from Husson College in 1972. He served his country with in the U.S. Air Force stationed in Germany and Washington State before coming to Maine Air National Guard retiring after 32 years of service as a tech sergeant. Ed had a laid back nature and enjoyed going for rides around the area and loved a good cup of coffee. He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. He is survived by his daughter, Tory Wotton and husband, Matthew, of Mercer; life-long friend and mother to his child, Gail Rankin of Levant; a sister, Carol Fogg of Bucksport; a companion, Terry Hopkins of Bangor, and her family. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, William Rankin in 1998. Friends are invited to visit with the family 6-8 p.m., Monday, Aug. 15, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 16, with the Rev. Rudolph Leveille officiating. Interment will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., after the service. Gifts in his memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
