STEUBEN – Edward James Duncan, 73, died Sunday, Dec. 19, 2004, in Steuben. He was born Aug. 7, 1931, in Gardner, Mass. the son of William C. and May (Labell) Duncan. Eddie served eight years in the U.S. Army as a military police officer. Following his time in the service, he returned home to Gardner, Mass. where he worked as a steeplejack. In 1977, Eddie moved to Steuben where he worked at Mathew’s Country Store and was a fisherman. Eddie, better known as “Papa” to all who love him, is survived by his wife and companion of 40 years, Linda (Smith) Duncan of Steuben. Together they successfully and lovingly raised four children, Trudy Seavey and her husband, Philip, of Steuben, Ronald Burgess and his wife, Doreen, Sheridan Burgess and his wife, Marion, all of Gardner, Mass., and Weldon Burgess and his wife, Denise, of Templeton, Mass.; 13 grandchildren, Randy, Phil Jr., and Angela Seavey, Trudy, Ron Jr., Brandon, Timothy, Donnie Leigh, Skip, Garrett, Nicole, Eddie, and Samantha Burgess; one great-grandchild, three sisters, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, William and Robert. Friends are invited to visit with the family 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, at the Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 47 Main St., Milbridge where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday. Interment, with military honors, will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery, Milbridge. Gifts in memory of Eddie may be sent to Hospice of Hancock County, 14 Mckenzie Avenue, Ellsworth, ME 04605.
