SHERMAN – Edward V. Packard, 79, died Jan. 21, 2005, at his home. He was born Feb. 24, 1925, in Buckfield the son of Jesse and Mildred (Hall) Packard. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving at Normandy, Ardennes and Rhineland and received the purple heart. He was past master of Evening Star Lodge No. 147 AF & AM of Buckfield. He was a member of Molunkus Lodge No. 165 AF & AM of Sherman, Anah Shriners of Bangor, and Northern Penobscot Shrine Club. Ed enjoyed all sports. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Polly (Sanborn) Packard of Sherman; four children, Clarice Tucker of Buckfield, Stephen and his wife, Brenda Packard, of Hartford, Linda and her husband, Galen Desrosier, of Sherman, and Jeffery Packard of Sherman; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one foster sister, Jean Gilbert of Turner; sister-in-law, Barbara Roy of South Paris, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his aunt who raised him, Elizabeth Keen; and his half-brother, A. Franklin Roy who died one hour before Ed. Friends may call 5-7 p.m. Sunday, at Bowers Funeral Home, Island Falls with Molunkus Lodge No. 165 conducting services at 7 p.m. Spring interment will be in the Golden Ridge Cemetery.
