ROCKLAND – Susan F. Nelson, 89, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005, following a long illness. She was born Oct. 30, 1915, in South Hope, she was the daughter of Joseph G. and Mabel Ridsdale Gath. She attended local schools, graduating from Union High School in 1933. For more than 25 years, Mrs. Nelson was employed as a medical secretary for Dr. Robert Eddy. She was active in the Eastern Star and a member of the Rockland Congregational Church. In 1989, she entered Colliers Nursing Home in Ellsworth where she resided two years before moving to the Knox Center for Long Term Care. A 13 year resident of Knox Center, Mrs. Nelson considered the staff there, as her own family. She was predeceased by one sister, Ingrid Nelson; and a great-grandson, Chad Seavey. Mrs. Nelson is survived by her daughter, Shirley Jones and her husband, Richard, of Hancock; her son, Joseph G. Nelson and his companion, Kathleen Eugley, of Waldoboro; her sister, Lucille Cousens of Rockland; three grandchildren, Kiana Moran and her husband, Charles, of Winterport, Kim Seavey and her husband, Ernest, of Hancock, Glen Nelson of New Hampshire and Iraq; five great-grandchildren, Melody Tracy, Zachary Seavey, Mathew Seavey, Erica Nelson, Alyssa Nelson; and one great-great-grandchild, Keaton Tracy; a niece, Sherry Emery and her husband, Colin, of Rockland; a nephew, James Cousins and his wife, Shirley, of Oklahoma. Private burial services will be held at East Union Cemetery. Those who wish may make memorial donations to the Knox Center for Long Term Care, Activities Dept. Memorial Fund, 22 White St., Rockland, ME 04841. Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland.
