CARIBOU – Edwina M. Sanfacon, 87, wife of the late Pete Sanfacon, died Aug. 7, 2007, in Caribou, with her family by her side. She was born Jan. 20, 1920, in Connor, the daughter of Maxime and Lydia (Ouellette) Blanchette. She was a 1937 graduate of Caribou High School and was employed for more than 33 years as the bookkeeper at the Caribou A&P grocery store. She was also employed for several years by Potato Service as well as R.T. French. Mrs. Sanfacon was a longtime member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, where she was an active member of the Ladies of St. Anne, The Catholic Golden Age, as well as the Cursillo group. She was a member of the Cary Medical Seniority Program and she and her husband were avid square dancers and members of the Caribou Hoofers. Edwina was always looking out for the needs of her family and friends as well as all of her four legged friends who were frequent guests on her back porch for a bite to eat. She was very proud of her French and Native American ancestry. She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Galen and Bonnie Sanfacon, and Gary Sanfacon, all of Caribou; two sisters, Florence Castonguay and husband, Phil, of Springfield, Mass., and Irene Ouellette of Newport, Mass.; two sisters-in-law, Doris Blanchette and Doris Sanfacon, both of Caribou; two grandchildren, Lydia Christie and her husband, Travis, and Matthew Sanfacon; one great-granddaughter, Emma Ruth Christie; many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Sanfacon was predeceased by her husband, Adelard “Pete” Sanfacon; three brothers, Lionel, Ben, and Robert Blanchette; three sisters, Alma Laney and Anna and Cecile Gauvin; as well as numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou, where rosary services will be conducted 7:30 p.m. by members of the Ladies of St. Anne. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, from the Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Father David Raymond officiating. Interment will be in Old Holy Rosary Cemetery.
