STONINGTON – Patricia C. “Pat” Foster, 53, died of complications from liver disease Aug. 1, 2007, in Bangor. She was born Sept. 16, 1953, in Boston, daughter of Joseph F. and Patricia L. (Callanan) Cummings. Pat was a graduate of Weymouth North High School. She attended the University of Massachusetts – Amherst, from 1971 to 1974 and Bridgewater State College, Bridgewater, Mass., from 1976 to 1978. Pat taught at Stonington Elementary School from 1978 to 2000. Throughout the years, she taught fifth and third grades, as well as a combined 3/4 class for several years. Pat was a born teacher and had a real passion for teaching and learning. Her special areas of interest were reading and writing. Pat said that the secret to teaching was to find “something to love” about each of her students. This was something she found easy to do. It was very difficult for Pat when her health made it impossible for her to continue full-time classroom teaching. Most recently she spent several years tutoring students for the Deer Isle-Stonington school system. She also worked at Prints and Reprints, Stonington, for many years. There she enjoyed interacting with all the interesting people, locally and from around the world, who visited the shop; being surrounded by all those wonderful books, beautiful art, and interesting items; the spectacular view, and her friend, the shop owner, Jackie Burnett. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert. She is survived by her son, Caleb and his fianc?e, Staphne Gray; a daughter, Caitlin, all of Stonington; sisters, Stacy Cummings of Randolph, Mass., and Victoria Boucher and husband, Raymond, of Littleton, Mass.; several cousins, nieces and nephews, and many friends. There will be no viewing. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Aug. 23, at Community of Christ Church, Stonington. In the spring when Pat’s ashes are interred, there will be a rousing celebration of life party in her honor. A fund has been established to help Pat’s children. Individuals who wish may make contributions to The Foster Fund, care of Bobbi Billings, 300 Sunshine Road, Deer Isle, ME 04627.
