HANCOCK and WHITING – Effie Bernice (Davis) Ashmore died Jan. 12, 2005, at a Bangor hospital. She was born July 8, 1922, in Ellsworth, the daughter of Elmer George and Carrie (Estey) Davis. Effie graduated from Ellsworth High School. She worked for the Maine Department of Parks and Recreation from which she retired in 1984. She was a member and Past Matron of Irene Chapter No. 97 O.E.S. of Ellsworth, a member of the Whiting Quilting Club, a member of the Union Congregational Church of Ellsworth Falls and in later life attended the Whiting Community Church. She is survived by her five children, John and wife, Pamela, of Brooksville; Frederick and his wife, Margaret, of Hancock; Allan and his wife, Sandra, of Trenton; Bruce and his wife, Cindy, of Carmel; Kathryn and husband, Martin Mahar, of East Machias; 19 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Arthur H. Ashmore Jr. in 2003; a sister, Elizabeth Anderson in 1963; a brother, Elmer Davis Jr. in 1984; and a grandson, Brian Ashmore in 1972. Visiting hours for family and friends will be held from 4-6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14, 2005, at the Jordan-Fernald Funeral Home, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005. Spring interment will be at Woodbine Cemetery, Ellsworth.
