NEW SWEDEN – Eldon E. Larson, 70, died Jan. 1, 2005, at Presque Isle following a brief illness. He was born May 26, 1934, in Caribou the son of Elmer Carl and Mabel Louise Larson. He attended the Caribou and New Sweden Schools and was a member of the Gustaf Adolph Lutheran Church. He served with the 152nd Field Artillery Maine Army National Guard in Caribou for a number of years. On Nov. 11, 1954, Eldon married Vera Charlotte (Smith) Larson. Mr. Larson was employed by the Maine Department of Transportation, and was later employed as a rural route carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in New Sweden and Limestone for more than 30 years. Mr. Larson was also a life long farmer and potato grower, farming for many years on the family farm on the East Road in New Sweden. Eldon loved country western music and in his earlier years, played clarinet in the band at Thomas Park. The Lawrence Welk Show was one of his favorites and he also truly enjoyed Fireman Fred and karaoke at the Aroostook Centre Mall. He also enjoyed senior citizens bingo, dining with his wife and family at area restaurants and attending various agricultural functions. Mr. Larson loved playing checkers with his grandchildren, as well as putting puzzles together with his wife during the winter months. Surviving in addition to his wife of more than 50 years, Vera of New Sweden; are two daughters and sons-in-law, Lorella and James Caldwell of New Sweden and Melinda and Russell Plourde of Caribou; three grandchildren, Stephanie, Brandon, and Reanna Plourde; two stepgrandchildren, Nicole Bragdon and Jamie Caldwell; three great-stepgrandchildren, Tyler Caldwell, Jeremy Theriault and Kailey Bragdon. Mr. Larson was predeceased by his parents and a special friend, Walfred Johnson who played a big part of, and was a great influence on Eldon’s life. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou. Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005, from the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Blackstone, officiating. Interment will be in the New Sweden Cemetery. Friends who wish to contribute in memory of Mr. Larson may do so through the Gustaf Adolph Lutheran Church memorial fund.
