MACHIASPORT – Douglas E. Campbell died peacefully at home Dec. 31, 2004, after a battle with cancer. He was born June 20, 1932, in Emmet County, Iowa. Doug served as selectman and in other municipal capacities for the towns of York Beach, Denmark, and Machiasport, the town he loved the most. He enlisted in the military at the age of 17, serving 10 years in the U.S. Navy and five years in the U.S. Air Force. After his military discharge, he dealt in antiques and then spent more than 30 years perfecting the art of antique furniture reproduction. He became well know nationwide with several pieces now residing in museums and prestigious homes. Doug was also well known in the area for his involvement with the Machiasport Historical Society and the Machiasport Cemetery Association. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sandra (Hatch) Campbell; brother, J. William Campbell of Texas; sister, Patricia Soderburg of Michigan; daughters, Karen Owen and husband, Dan, of New Haven, Conn., Alexandra Mickelinc and husband, Mark, of Marshfield, and Prudence Schran and husband, John, of Westtown, Pa.; and granddaughters, Katherine and Charlotte Mickelinc. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, at the Machiasport Congregational Church. Burial will immediately follow at the Church Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Machiasport Historical Society, P.O.
