CARIBOU – Eldon V. Searles Sr., 83, died Nov. 26, 2007, in Caribou. He was born March 24, 1924, in Woodland, the son of Perley and Laurie (Grondon) Searles. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. Eldon was employed for Aroostook Valley Railroad for many years until his retirement He was a member of Carson Pentecostal Church, the Lister-Knowlton Post No. 9389 VFW and the Henry B. Pratt Post No. 15 American Legion. He is survived by a son, Eldon Searles II; four daughters, Marlene Lint and her husband, Merrill, of Caribou, Eldina Lockwood of New Haven, Conn., Cindy Toubman and her husband, Brian, of Wilton, Conn., and Donella Lyden and her husband, Tim, of Wisconsin; one brother, Guy Searles of Caribou; three sisters, Carolyn Searles of New Sweden, Marilyn Chase of Woodland and Ollie Soucy of Fort Fairfield; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, including two special great-grandchildren, who has a special place in Eldon’s heart, Arie and Diana Lockwood; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Ethel (Chase) Searles, May 10, 1999; and by two brothers, James and Jack Searles. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou, with evening military services being held by the VFW and American Legion. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at the chapel of Mockler Funeral Home with the Rev. John Palmer, pastor, officiating. Spring interment will take place at Woodland Cemetery.
