MACHIAS – Eleanor A. “Binky” Hatt, 60, died unexpectedly Thursday, Nov. 13, 2003, at her home in Machias. She was born in Bangor, Dec. 8, 1942, the daughter of Wilfred O. and Hazel I. (Chapman) Gross. Binky was a graduate of Machias High School, Class of 1961. She was employed at the Machias A & P for several years, and was a waitress at the Bluebird Ranch, formerly Graham’s, and also at Jenny’s. She enjoyed camping with her family at Timberland Acres in Ellsworth and working on crossword puzzles. Binky is survived by her husband of 41 years, Julian R. “Butch” Hatt of Machias; a son, Wilfred R. Hatt and his wife, Rebecca, of Waltham; two granddaughters, Meghan and Maryssa; two sisters, Sandra Franklin and her husband, Paul, of Salisbury, Mass., and Judith Stevens and her husband, Robert, of Darlington, S.C.; four brothers, Robert Jenkins and his wife, Shirley, of Mass., Richard Gross and his wife, Martha, of Darlington, S.C., Stephen Gross of Southwest Harbor, and Timothy Gross and his wife, Georgia, of Cutler; a special friend and mother-in-law, Mildred “Snookie” Hatt; sisters-in-law, Joan Bapson and husband, William, of Blue Hill, Susanne Brodowski and husband, Richard, of Palmer, Mass.; four special nieces and nephews, Zach, Mack, Taylor, and Paige; a special cousin, Billy Thompson of Machias; two special friends, Joyce Hooper of Machias, and Anita Johnson of East Machias; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Binky will also be missed by her canine friend, Sadie. She was predeceased by her parents; and a brother, Wilfred Gross. Graveside funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Longfellow Cemetery, Upper Court Street, Machias with Pastor John officiating.
