PRESQUE ISLE- Eleanor C. Osgood 72, wife of the late Richard E. Osgood, Egypt Road, died Sept. 14, 2004, at her home in Presque Isle. She was born May 12, 1932, in Houlton, the daughter of Alfred and Mary “Nellie” (McGwire) Carpenter. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Presque Isle. Carpie graduated from the Madigan Memorial Nursing School in Houlton and was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority. Following graduation she began a career in nursing that spanned 50 years, working mostly at the A.R. Gould Memorial hospital in Presque Isle. Her interests included playing bridge and visiting family and friends. Predeceasing her in addition to her husband was a daughter, Shalene Marie Osgood; and a brother, Paul Carpenter. Surviving her is her son, Al Osgood of Portland; two brothers, Robert Carpenter of Ludlow and Phil Carpenter of Kentucky; a sister and her husband, Shirley and Horace Kelley, of South Carolina; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 20, 2004, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Main Street in Presque Isle, with the Rev. Alfred Irving celebrant. Interment will be in the Fairmount Cemetery in Presque Isle. Gifts in her memory may be made to the Visiting Nurses of Aroostook, P.O. Box 688, Caribou, ME 04736. Arrangements are in the care of the Duncan-Graves Funeral Home in Presque Isle.
