NORTHPORT – Eleanor F. (Bennett) Black, 86, resident at Tall Pines Health Care Facility, passed away July 7, 2008, at Waldo County General Hospital. Eleanor was born April 2, 1922, in Danforth, the daughter of Leroy and Minnie (Gray) Bennett. She graduated in 1940 from Danforth High School. She also graduated from Bath Memorial Hospital for Nurses in 1945, receiving her certification from the state of Maine, and in 1951 received her certification from Hartford, Conn., where she worked at Mount Sinai Hospital, until retiring in 1984 after 33 years of service. She was predeceased by her parents; her first husband, Archibald Rolfe; her second husband, Herbert Black Jr.; sisters, Ardis (Bennett) Bartholomew and Suzie (Bennett) Crandlemire; a brother, Roger Ben-nett; and nephew, John Crandlemire. Survivors include two nephews, Richard and wife, Carolyn Bennett, of Veazie and Marc and wife, Ann Crandlemire, of Milner, Ga.; stepson, Herbert Black III and companion, Cindy Clark, of Northport; stepdaughter, Susan (Black) Holmes and husband, Ed, of Florida; a special niece, Rebecca Mohr of Searsport; a long-time dear friend and co-worker, Shirley Sylvester of East Hartford, Conn.; several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to call 10-11 a.m. Friday, July 11, at Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast, where funeral service will begin 11 a.m. Interment will be held after at Beech Ridge Cemetery, Northport.
