BELFAST and BANGOR – Eleanor Theo Atherton, 84, wife of the late Wendell R. Atherton, Bangor attorney, municipal court judge and state legislator died June 22, 2005, in Belfast. She was born June 3, 1921, in Veazie, the daughter of Ernest Eugene Spencer and Nancy Jane (Braley) Spencer. Mrs. Atherton resided in Holden, Bangor and Brewer prior to moving to Harbor Hill in Belfast nine years ago. She had many friends and loved ones at Harbor Hill among the staff and residents. Mrs. Atherton was a long time member of Grace Methodist Church in Bangor and later attended the Holden Congregational Church. She is survived by two daughters, Susanne A. Jenks and husband, Earl, of Richmond, R.I., Patience A. Maddocks and husband, Chester, of Ellsworth; two sons, Forest R. Bradeen Jr. of Paxton, Ariz., David E. Atherton of Frankfort; also surviving are eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Zimmerman of Nevada; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters. Friends are invited to visit with the family 10:30 a.m. to noon Friday, at Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor, where a funeral service will be held at 12 noon with the Rev. Katherine Fisk, pastor of Holden Congregational Church officiating. Interment will be in the family lot at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
