KITTERY – Elizabeth “Liz” Ann Higgs, 72, of Village Green Drive, Kittery, died June 29, 2006, at York Hospital. Born March 9, 1934, in Portsmouth, N.H., she was the daughter of the late Kenneth H. and Theodora G. (Hay) Paisley. She was raised in Kittery and attended local schools including R.W. Traip Academy. She met and married her husband, Harold Emmett Higgs, and together they made their home in Kittery and raised a family. An active member of her community, Liz was a Cub and Girl Scout leader when her children were young. She was a member of the DAR, Portsmouth Chapter and member of the Kittery Lions Club; as a Lioness she served the organization as secretary and was busy in many of their programs, including the blood pressure clinics, holiday baskets and bingo. Liz provided help and support to many as a volunteer at the local hospitals. She served for a time at Portsmouth Hospital and for many years was a familiar face greeting folks and helping them at York Hospital, where she enjoyed the family of staff and fellow volunteers for more than 12 years. She was an active member of her church, the Second Christian Congregational Church UCC of Kittery, where she sang in the choir, worked with the Busy Bees and the Prudential Committee, and enjoyed time spent with the doorkeepers, serving at different times as secretary, treasurer and president. Her first love was unquestionably her family; she dearly loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Everyone who knew Liz knew how much she loved them and how proud she was of each of them. She is survived by her children; son, Kenneth Higgs of Newmarket, N.H., daughter, Susan and her husband, Sam Legasse, of Claremont, N.H., daughter, Sandra and her husband, Jeffrey Folmar, of Kittery, son, James Higgs of Newmarket, N.H. and son, Brian and his wife, Nicole Higgs, of Bangor; seven grandchildren, Nicole, Sarah, Shaun, Christopher, Samuel “Sam,” Noah and Reid; as well as her great-grandchildren, Issac, Donny, Lucas, Brevin, Tyler, Matthew and Logan; two brothers and their wives, John and Beatrice Paisley of South Berwick and William and Marie Paisley of Kittery; an uncle, Richard and his wife, Barbara Hay, of Portsmouth, N.H.; her in-laws, Joyce Robinson, Alice Hoste, Donna and Bob Barber, Sally and Roger Harrison, Jane and Eddy Gerard and Earl Higgs. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, Harold; and her grandson, Scott M Legasse. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday at her church, the Second Christian Congregational United Church of Christ, Government Street, Kittery, with a time of refreshment and sharing in the church parish hall after. Burial will be held privately. Friends may visit with her family 5-7 p.m. Sunday at the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Rd., Kittery. In lieu of flowers, Liz wished that donations be made in her memory to her church. Arrangements are entrusted to the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, Kittery.
