SEARSPORT – Elizabeth Ann Holmes Council, passed away Aug. 7, 2007, at her home, after a battle of many years from complications of cancer treatments. Elizabeth, Ann or Betty as many knew her had a strong spirit and passion for life. She was never without her to do list or her agenda of things to accomplish. A dedicated daughter, a loving mother, an unfailing friend, she left a legacy of laughter and love for those that will continue without her. Elizabeth was born in Winterport, to William and Margaret Holmes, graduated from Winterport High School and entered the U.S. Army, serving later in the U.S. Air Force Reserves. Elizabeth married James Council while in the service and they made their home in Texas for many years. While in the Dallas area Elizabeth graduated from El Centro School of Nursing, and worked at Veterans Administration Hospital, Dallas as an operating room nurse. She continued as head nurse in the operating room at Zale Lipshy Hospital, Dallas. Elizabeth also was an active member and lifelong student of the Spiritualist Church. She served on the board and as past president of Temple Heights Spiritualist Camp and served as a board member and secretary to the board at Temple Heights Spiritual Church. Elizabeth was predeceased by her mother, Margaret E. Holmes; father, William H. Holmes Sr.; and brother, William Holmes Jr. Elizabeth is survived by her four children, Mary Clark of Arizona, James Council of Arizona, Cindy Young of Texas, Debra Smith of Texas. Elizabeth has 14 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by brother, Thomas Holmes; sister-in-law, Kathy Holmes Whitney of Florida; nephew, Phillip Holmes of Winterport; niece, Stacy Holmes Fales of New Jersey; niece, Billie Holmes Murphy of South Carolina; cousin, Arlene Smith of Stockton Springs; aunt, Dot Harrington of Camden; and numerous family and friends who mourn her passing and celebrate her healing from pain. Elizabeth’s life will be celebrated noon Friday, Aug. 10, at a memorial service at Temple Heights Spiritual Camp, 4 Park St., Northport, after which refreshments will be served. A graveside service will be held 2:30 p.m. Friday at Sea View Cemetery, Russell Avenue, Rockport.
