BREWER and BANGOR Elizabeth “Betty” (Mallett) Dow, 88, wife of the late Earl B. Dow, died Aug. 6, 2008, at a Bangor health care center. She was born April 14, 1920, in Jacksonville, daughter of Dean P. and E. Adella (Shorey) Mallett. Betty was employed for a number of years as manager of the candy counter at the former W.T. Grant Co., Bangor, retiring in the mid 1970s. She attended Grace United Methodist Church of Bangor. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and one who truly enjoyed her home on Pushaw. Surviving are one daughter, Suzanne D. Estes and her husband, Thomas, of Ellsworth; a son, Michael J. Dow and his wife, Mary Ellen, of Portland; daughter-in-law, Charlotte Dow of Brewer; nine grandchildren, Scott Dow, John Dow, LeeAnne Dale and her husband, Frank, Lori Lancaster and her husband, Jeffrey, Lisa Canalas and her husband, Joseph, Lynn Webb and her husband, Cash, Michael McDonald and his wife, Lori, Jess Dow and his wife, Christy, and Elizabeth Fournier and her husband, Benjamin; three stepgrandchildren, Thomas Estes Jr., Michelle Estes and Melissa Funari and her husband, Christian; 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Earl, she was predeceased by a son, Thomas Dow; a grandson, Daniel Dow; and by all her brothers and sisters. A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer, with the Rev. Kathy Macedo, pastor of Grace United Methodist Church of Bangor, officiating. Family and friends are welcome to call 2 p.m. Saturday until time of service. Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, Bangor.
