HOULTON and BANGOR – Elizabeth J. Tyrrell, 79, died April 21, 2007, at a Bangor health care facility. She was born Oct. 25, 1927, in Houlton, the daughter of Earle and Helen (Elkins) Varney. A tremendously strong, caring and compassionate woman, Elizabeth was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, who will be dearly missed. She spent many years of her life devoted to the care of disabled children. Elizabeth is survived by her husband, Merle E. Tyrrell of Houlton; a daughter-in-law, Sheila Tyrrell of Orono; three grandchildren, Stephanie Shayne and her husband, Mike, of Virginia Beach, Va., Shelly Tennett and her husband, John, of Bangor and Shane Tyrrell and his wife, Teresa, of Stetson; six great-grandchildren, Mikaela and Matthew Shayne of Virginia Beach, Va., Callie Tennett of Bangor, Zach Small of Stetson and Kamryn and Kacey Tyrrell of Stetson. She was predeceased by her son, Stephen W. Tyrrell; and her daughters, Anne Tyrrell and Jane Tyrrell. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at Dunn Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Robertson officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
